Client: Skinny Bob's Billiards
Agency: Al Designs

Case Study: Skinny Bob’s Billiards is home to the annual Texas Open 9-Ball Championships. It’s a billiard hall known for the best players, tournaments and equipment in Austin, TX. Bob’s GM, Shayla Neris, reached out to upgrade their brand appeal and inclusivity to their growing international fanbase online and help draw bigger competitors and sponsors to their events.

We decided on using Texan vibes in their lettering to insure an immediate sense of place. Their new look needed to be instantly recognizable from small screens to outdoor signage while emulating its high standards of billiard play. Personally, I’ve spent countless hours daydreaming about this project in pool halls across the US. Bob's new brand has been developed with a love for the game and for the people and places that make it so much fun.

Bob himself needed a serious update to their 20 year-old hand drawn mascot to help maintain it’s local recognition within the brand. C.S. Jennings, Austin native and children’s book illustrator helped nail down our updated Bob. Jennings was a good sport about learning player mechanics, from a proper bridge to how players hold themselves waiting to play.
